For a thirty-fifth birthday
I've sometime thought that being thirty-five
Is as the keystone in the mason's wall
The final piece of work that ensures all
That went before will thereby strength derive.
The structure being stable he'll contrive
To use his skills and further works install
Completing thus the structure to enthrall
The coming generations who survive.
The pattern's set; stability's defined
The years now past have set your future's way
And all that comes is squarely in the sway
Of half of three-score years and ten enshrined.
That's how it was when your age was with me
And I can say "The best is yet to be"
